Obesity Genetic Test: Making Your Weight Loss Efforts More Effective
Why do some people find it very difficult to lose weight? And why do some people rarely gain weight regardless of how much they eat? The reason lies in the influence of human genes on obesity.
Several types of obesity genes
FTO (Fat Mass and Obesity Associated Gene)
FTO was the first obesity-susceptibility gene discovered through GWAS in European patients with type 2 diabetes. The association between FTO SNPs with food intake have been investigated in many studies, which revealed the associations between FTO SNPs and increased intake of dietary fat, protein, energy, increased appetite, but decreased satiety.
Melanocortin-4 Receptor (MC4R)
The MC4R gene is now considered the most common gene associated with childhood obesity. In 1998, it was first discovered to be related to body weight. Now multiple studies have investigated its mechanism and the function of different mutations. The MC4R gene codes for the MC4R protein, which plays an important role in energy homeostasis and food intake behavior.
BDNF Gene
Low levels of BDNF protein mean an individual feels hungry even after consuming enough food to meet energy needs, leading to a lack of appetite control and overeating, which results in obesity.
Introduction of Obesity Genetic Test
【Test Content】
Obesity genetic risk assessment
The impact of the three major nutrients—carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins—on body weight
The weight reduction effects of aerobic exercise, strength training, and other exercise methods
【Test Method】
Gene chip
【Sample Requirements】
Venous blood: Volume of 3-4 mL; store at 4℃ within 8 hours; store at -20℃ for durations exceeding 8 hours; transport with bio-ice packs (2-8℃)/72h; collect in an EDTA anticoagulant tube.
Buccal mucosa cells: Sampling by scraping the inside of both cheeks 20 times each (one up and one down counts as 1 time); store at room temperature in a preservation tube containing preservative fluid; transport at room temperature/72h. collect in a buccal swab preservation tube.
【Report Turnaround Time】
9 working days
【Clinical Application Overview】
By detecting genes related to obesity in the human body, this method assesses the risk of obesity occurrence and the impact of diet and exercise on body weight. Based on the assessment results, it provides personalized lifestyle suggestions for diet and exercise, thereby effectively preventing obesity and achieving scientific weight loss.
